Why a mala
Malas have been used for centuries to count one's breath and/or prayers during meditation. Traditionally they have 108 beads. In many ancient texts and philosophies this auspicious number 108 appears many times; it symbolizes the unity of the cosmos, promotes alignment with natural cycles, aids in focusing the mind, enhances vibrational frequencies, and fosters discipline. In Ayurveda we have 108 marma points (vital points of life force) in our body. Mantras are traditionally repeated 108 times and the mala assists in this counting.
